A hotelier in Bideford has been fined £50,000 in fines and costs for breaching fire safety legislation

A hotel owner in Bideford has been fined £40,000 and ordered to pay an additional £10,000 in costs at Exeter Crown Court after pleading guilty to a number of fire safety offences under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.


A hotel owner in Bideford has been fined £40,000 and ordered to pay an additional £10,000 in costs at Exeter Crown Court after pleading guilty to a number of fire safety offences under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Chescombe Limited pleaded guilty to the following offences - failing to implement the requirements of the fire risk assessment; failing to provide adequate fire alarm and detection equipment; inadequate fire resisting doors; failing to ensure escape routes were kept clear; and failing to maintain a final exit door and self closing fire doors.
